Betaine HCl is the trimethyl derivative of the amino acid glycine. It serves as a methyl group donor which participate in trans-methylation reactions, thus it reduces requirement of other methyl group donors like methionine and choline. Due to the osmlyte function it has more pronounced effect in thermally stressed birds.
