Food grade citric acid monohydrate is mainly applied in food and beverage industries. It acts as acidulant to deliver tart taste in soft drinks, juice, confectionery, jam and canned fruits. It functions as pH regulator and antioxidant synergist to extend shelf life, inhibit enzymatic browning for fruit products. It also serves as chelating agent to bind metal ions and stabilize food color and flavor.
USP grade citric acid monohydrate is pharmaceutical excipient complying with United States Pharmacopeia standards. It is widely used in oral solid formulations such as effervescent tablets, granules and syrups. It adjusts pH value, improves solubility of active ingredients, and works as chelator to enhance formulation stability. It can also be used in topical pharmaceutical preparations and dialysis related formulations under strict quality control.
