Methyl Sulfonyl Methane MSM powder (CAS 67-71-0) is an organosulfur compound with the formula(CH3)2SO2. It is also known by several other names including DMSO2, methyl sulfone, and dimethyl sulfone. It occurs naturally in some primitive plants, is present in small amounts in many foods and beverages, and is marketed as a dietary supplement. It is also commonly found in the atmosphere above marine areas, where it is used as a carbon source by the airborne bacteria Afipia,and is found distinctively in human melanoma cells.

Methyl Sulfonyl Methane MSM is white crystal powder, easily soluble in ether solution, ethyl alcohol, benzene, methyl alcohol and acetone, slightly soluble in ether. It can’t discolor Potassium Permanganate at normal temperature. Strong oxidizer can oxidize Methyl Sulfonyl Methane into methylsulfonic acid. Methyl Sulfonyl Methane solution presents neutral. Microsublimation occurs at 25 °C, and speeds up at 60°C. It should be store in a tightly sealed container away from heat and direct light, and in a cool dry place.
