Use & Application
Silica gel is widely used as moisture desiccant for packaging, electronics, leather, food, pharmaceutical and instrument industries to control relative humidity and prevent mould, corrosion and damp damage. It acts as stationary phase adsorbent for column chromatography, thin layer chromatography (TLC) and preparative liquid separation in laboratory, pharmaceutical purification and natural product extraction. It serves as carrier for catalysts, pesticide carriers and adsorbing medium to remove polar impurities from oil, solvent and air streams. In coating, rubber and plastic industry, silica gel works as anti-caking agent, matting agent and reinforcing filler to improve surface property and mechanical performance. It can also be applied as filter aid, decolorizing agent, and raw material for silica-based functional materials.
