Commercial benzaldehyde is mainly produced by two routes:
Toluene liquid-phase catalytic oxidation (chlorine-free grade, preferred for flavor & pharma). Toluene is oxidized by air under cobalt/manganese catalyst with controlled conversion to avoid over-oxidation to benzoic acid, by rectification.
Toluene side-chain chlorination then hydrolysis (traditional route, trace organochlorine may exist). Toluene is photochlorinated to benzal chloride, then hydrolyzed and purified by steam distillation and vacuum distillation.

Use & Application
Flavor & fragrance grade benzaldehyde serves as core almond flavor raw material for food essences, bakery, beverage, candy and tobacco flavoring. It is also widely used in daily fragrance formulation to deliver nutty and fruity notes.
Industrial grade benzaldehyde is used for synthesis of dyestuffs, benzoic acid, cinnamic acid, synthetic resins and plastic additives. It can also be used as solvent and additive for some coating systems.

Delivery & Storage
Seal tightly, store in cool, dry, dark and ventilated warehouse. Avoid air exposure, sunlight and high temperature. Separate from oxidizing agents, strong acids and strong alkalis. Shelf life is 12 months under proper sealed storage.
