Physical and chemical properties
This product is color loose fine powder, feel smooth, insoluble in water, ethanol and ether, soluble in hot water, ether, acid decomposition into stearic acid and the corresponding magnesium salt. Solubility in water at room temperature 77-79mg/L, soluble in hot ethanol. In case of acid decomposition into stearic acid and the corresponding magnesium salts.
Function
- Magnesium stearate is mainly used as a lubricant, anti adhesive, and flow aid. Specially suitable for granulation of oil and paste drugs, the resulting particles have good fluidity and compressibility. Used as a flow aid in direct compression.
- It can also be used as a filter aid, clarifying agent, and foaming agent, as well as a suspension aid and thickening agent for liquid formulations.
- Magnesium stearate is also used in the manufacture of cosmetics, such as powder, eye shadow, etc.
