Character: Amorphous white powder
Dissolution: It is almost insoluble in water, but soluble in acid, alkali solution and ammonia water.
Preparation or source: It is prepared by adding caustic potassium slightly less than the calculated amount in the zinc nitrate solution.

An amphoteric hydroxide. It is decomposed into zinc oxide and water at 125 ℃.
It is an amphoteric hydroxide. Dissolve in strong acid to form zinc salt. Dissolve in strong alkali to form zincate. Different from aluminum hydroxide, it can dissolve in ammonia to form zinc ammonia complex ion:
Zn(OH)2+4NH3=〔Zn(NH3)4〕2++20H-
Application: Used as rubber filler and surgical ointment. It is prepared by adding a proper amount of strong alkali solution into the zinc salt solution
